Preparation or Serving Suggestions:
- Traditional Method: Place a sugar cube on a slotted absinthe spoon over a glass. Slowly pour ice-cold water over the sugar cube to dissolve it, allowing the water to mix with 1.5 oz of Absente 55. The absinthe will louche (turn cloudy) as the water is added. Adjust the water-to-absinthe ratio to taste.
- Absinthe Frappe: Shake 1.5 oz of Absente 55 with 1 tsp of simple syrup and crushed ice, strain into a glass, and top with more crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig.
- Absinthe Cocktail: Shake 1.5 oz of Absente 55, 0.5 oz of simple syrup, 0.5 oz of lemon juice, and a dash of bitters with ice. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
- Sazerac: Rinse a chilled glass with a splash of Absente 55, discarding any excess. In a separate glass, muddle a sugar cube with a few dashes of Peychaud's bitters, add ice, and 2 oz of rye whiskey. Stir well and strain into the absinthe-rinsed glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
